HTC yesterday announced two selfie smartphones for the Indian market, namely Desire 828 and One A9. The smartphones will be made available in the country in two weeks when HTC will announce their price.

Both HTC Desire 828 and One A9 come with 13 megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, auto focus, BSI sensor, optical image stabilisation and full HD video recording ability. Both of them also offer HTC UltraPixel (4 MP) front camera that comes with f/2.0 aperture, fixed focus and full HD video recording ability.

Both Desire 828 and One A9 also offers Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi (b/g/n/ac), micro USB port, 3.5 mm jack, 4G connectivity and GPS with GLONASS.

Other than that nothing is common between these two. The One A9 has a 5 inch display with full HD resolution and Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It measures 145.75x70.8x7.26 mm and weighs 143 grams while the HTC Desire 828 is a bigger device measuring 157.7x78.9x7.9 mm and weighs 148 grams as it has a bigger 5.5 inch display. The touchscreen of Desire 828 also offers full HD resolution.

The Desire 828 comes pre-installed with the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system and has HTC Sense interface. The OS runs on the 1.5 GHz Mediatek MT6753T octa core processor with 2 GB RAM. This smartphone offers 16 GB of internal memory and a 2 TB micro SD card slot.

On the other hand, the HTC One A9 comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system with HTC Sense UI on top, the 64 bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 octa core processor and 2 GB RAM. It has 32 GB of inbuilt storage as well as an expandable storage slot that can hold a 2 TB micro SD card.

The HTC One A9 is a single SIM device with a 2150 mAh battery while the dual SIM Desire 828 offers a 2800 mAh battery.

It is important to note that the HTC launched One A9 just a month after its announcement internationally while Desire 828 has made its global debut from the Indian market. This clearly underlines how much importance HTC is now giving to the Indian market but it would be much more important for HTC to price these devices properly. With international brands like Samsung and Asus offering feature rich smartphones in the affordable segment and Chinese and Indian players upping the stakes every passing day, HTC needs to be aggressive on the pricing front to be successful in the Indian market.

Tata Zica

The Tata Kite hatchback has been officially christened as the Zicaand will be launched in India in the first week of January. The Tata Kite hatchback's name was revealed in a new teaser featuring the carmaker's new brand ambassador Lionel Messi. Tata revealed that the name is a derivation of 'ZIppy CAr', which is probably an indicator to the upcoming hatchback's performance.

Tata Zica, which will replace the ageing Indica eV2 in India, will sport a new signature front grille with the 'Humanity Line' and smoked head-lamps. To be built on the XO platform, Tata Zica's character lines are reminiscent of the Indica. However, Zica's rear profile looks completely different. The new hatchback is expected to be manufactured at Tata's Sanand, Gujarat-based facility.

The Tata Zica is likely to get a new suspension system as well, with the fully-independent rear suspension of the Indica set be replaced by a more conventional non-independent, twist beam axle.

Know About Tata Zica

The hatchback will come powered by a new 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine that puts out a maximum power output of 64bhp and 140Nm of peak torque. The petrol model, on the other hand, will get the same 1.2-litre Revotron unit that currently powers the Bolt.

The carmaker will slot the Tata Zica between the Nano and the Bolt, and will take on cars like the Hyundai Grand i10 and Maruti Suzuki Celerio with the new hatchback.

As far as pricing of the Tata Zica goes, Tata Motors can be expected to be aggressive on this front.

A Tata Kite compact sedan, which is based on the same XO platform, is on the cards as well and it remains to be seen what name the carmaker gives to it and when it will be launched.

Volkswagen showcased the Taigun compact SUV at the 2014 Auto Expo in India. Based on the Volkswagen Up’s PQ12 platform the Taigun that was showcased was a three door SUV. The VW Taigun wears bulky lines all around with its large front bumper that has a silver centre section. The front grille has three horizontal chrome slats with the VW logo placed prominently in the centre. The bonnet gets air scoops on either side to add to the sporty appeal of the car. The headlamps are large units with daytime running LED lights around the borders and have a dark, almost smoked look to them.

The side profile of the VW Taigun has a mildly flared front apron, the door has a flat contour and a flared rear wheel arch. The wheel arches are lined in slim black plastic while the rocker panel gets a silver finish. The large rear quarter window gets a kink in the lower rear section. The compact SUB also gets sliver roof rails and multi spoke alloy wheels. The rear section of the vehicle gets typical VW style rectangular tail lights, a nicely shaped rear windscreen, the bumper gets a silver centre section and the spare wheel is mounted on the centre of the tail gate.

It has to be said, that the Volkswagen Taigun looks very smart indeed from every angle and the only impractical part is that it is a three door model and access to the rear seat will be a tad tricky. The interiors though still in a conceptual stage are finished in VW grade high quality materials and is expected to come fully loaded on the equipment front.

Under the hood the Volkswagen Taigun will get the company’s 1.0 litre direct injection, turbo charged TSI petrol engine developing 108PS of power and 175Nm of torque.

At first glance, it has to be said that the new Honda Vezel compact SUV is quite the looker with its bold design cues that mimic the front end of its larger sibling the Honda CR-V, with its V shaped front grille that gets a chunky plastic beam connecting the angular headlamps. The lower section of the front bumper is also similar in design to that of the CR-V’s as well with stretched plastic fog lamp housings and a centrally located air dam with a lip spoiler below.

The side profile of the Honda Vezel gets a sloping rear roofline giving it a Coupe like look, other design cues include a crease in the lower section of the doors to lend a visual break and a prominent kink stretching from mid section of the front doors to the end of the window line of the rear doors. The wheel arches are flared and so is the later part rear doors. The rear door handles are integrated into the C-Pillars like on the new Civic.

Around the back, the rear section of the Vezel remains identical to its concept with its tall rear bumper, heavily contoured tailgate and tail lamps that stretch from the top-mid section of the tailgate on to its flared side sections.

The Vezel appears to have an adequate ground clearance and a rather sporty look that has given its competitors something to worry about.

Sinjar: Kurdish forces were left stunned after a secret network of tunnels built by ISIS was unearthed in Sinjar, an Iraqi town.

According to a report published in Daily Mail Online, around 40 underground routes were uncovered in Sinjar by Kurdish forces who liberated the town in north-west Iraq this month.
